About Book

Hi! I’m Steph, the founder of Dandle.

The word Dandle encompasses something adults so often neglect: creating space to be taken care of and allowing someone to do the caring.

I firmly believe we never outgrow the need for pampering! While a spa day won’t solve all of your problems, it can definitely help you forget about them for a little bit.

The Story of Dandle Spa

Dandle was born out of a search for peace and the desire to enjoy fullness of life.
Shortly after college, I began to experience symptoms in my body I had never had before. On top of life-long frequent headaches and cycle irregularity/pain, I had begun to experience chronic GI upset for the first time in my life. That’s when a dear friend introduced me to the phrase “ingredient house.”
As a healthcare professional, I thought I was educated on health and wellness, however, through this mentorship, I discovered that I had what’s called a “toxic load” preventing me from healing.

Our bodies are brilliantly designed to fully interact with the environment around us, meaning that we literally take in what we touch, smell, and taste. These things become part of us through the molecules we ingest. So, the chemicals in air fresheners, toiletries, feminine products, detergents, freezer meals, etc, that I used every day were being absorbed into my body at a faster rate than I could detox them.
As a result, my body was screaming for help and I had no idea. This began my journey of learning how to lower my toxic load.

Nursing School and Beyond

Around the same time I discovered this new holistic worldview, I began nursing school. For years, I had been working at a medical facility for children with medical fragilities and I wanted to expand my knowledge and help people.
While nursing school provided me with a depth of knowledge on how the body works, the disease processes, and treatments, I found that no amount of medical intervention was helping these families have manageable levels of stress. Let’s be honest, it wasn’t helping me have manageable levels of stress either.
When I dove into the effects of stress on the body, I was shocked at what I learned! Chronic stress equals chronic health issues.
Did you know that physical touch is a great way to manage stress and regulate the nervous system? Spa services like massage therapy, facials, and head spa treatments have all been shown to decrease levels of stress-inducing hormones and increase levels of “happy” hormones.

Dandle Spa is Born

In a perfect world, I would’ve learned everything there is to know about nervous system regulation, created a class, and invited each of you to attend for free… but owning a spa is more fun!
And so, Dandle was born.
Dandle means “pamper,” but it also refers to the way a mother bounces her child in her arms. This word encompasses something adults so often neglect: creating space to be taken care of and allowing someone to do the caring. We are quick to soothe children when they are upset and we often use physical touch to calm them down or help them sleep. However, as adults, we tend to avoid this type of self-care.
I firmly believe we never outgrow the need for pampering! While a spa day won’t solve all of your problems, it can definitely help you forget about them for a little bit!
